Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists the management in planning, implementing, and coordinating programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illness, and financial losses.
Develops compliance assurance plans to assist facility in meeting environmental goals.
Thorough knowledge and experience with recordkeeping, reporting, air emissions, storm water and non-hazardous waste.
Provides information to supervisors regarding compliance with Federal and State OSHA/ EPA regulations.
Compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data; prepares reports.
Acts as liaison with outside emergency organizations.
Performs safety audits, including the inspection of machinery, equipment and working conditions.
Manages selection and utilization of prescribed personal protective safety equipment (PPE).
Coordinates with outside industrial hygiene vendors, tests of work areas for noise, toxic and other hazards.
Assists in the investigation of accidents, injuries, and near misses, to determine the root causes and recommend preventative safety measures.
Coordinates restricted duty programs with Medical and Risk Departments, and production supervisors.
Develop and administer the Safety Certification program.
Administers, maintains data base on the Respiratory Protection and Hearing Conservation Programs.
Writes and distributes the safety meeting agenda.
Maintains current file on all needed Material Data Safety Sheets.
Performs other duties as assigned Education/Experience/Demands: Experience preferred in maritime or shipyard industry.
Proficiency in MS Office software.
Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MSDS, Jones Act, USCG, personal protection and any other related Federal regulations is preferred.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job throughout normal office and shipyard/marine vessels/manufacturing environments.
Some overnight travel possible.
